Education
At the age of six, Micah asked his parents for music lessons. They told him he was too young. Taking matters into his own hands, he made the appointment for his first lesson himself and started working with Kayla Howard (student of Sandra Mauchley) the following week.
He later studied piano with Jeff Schwartz, a University of Idaho undergrad, and eventually studied piano with Tracy Winterbottom, Master of Music Piano Performance.
In high school, Micah developed an interest in guitar and electric bass and played bass for the high school pep band lead by Doug Richards while continuing to study piano with Winterbottom and voice with Connie Trostrud. He took up the double bass in November of his senior year, instructed by Dave Bjur.
At the University of Idaho, Lionel Hampton School of Music, he studied classical double bass with Miranda Wilson, and graduated with a degree in Musical Performance with the concert bass in 2015.
Micah has performed with University of Idaho Jazz Choirs (directed by Dan Bukvich) as a choir member and bassist. He has performed with Dancers, Drummers, Dreamers for the past four years as the ensemble bassist.
He currently studies at the University of Idaho as a graduate student of music composition.
